What My Voice Offers
If you're looking for voice coaching
My voice offers free and paid one to one gender affirming voice coaching for adults, online via teams. Most service users only use four sessions, but the free option allows for up to six. The content of the typical four sessions is included in a table below.
| Session | Content |
|---|---|
| 1 | Getting to know you and your goals. |
| 2 | Warm up, pitch and intonation technique, and discussing making practice work for you. |
| 3 | Resonance and onset technique. |
| 4 | Conversational practice, detailed feedback, and discussing progress. |
Seems short, right? That's because the majority of work in voice training comes from you- what you put in is what you get out. Each appointment is four weeks apart, and in those gaps you'll be asked to practice for around thirty minutes a day. For this reason it's worth considering starting this journey at a time which avoids big life events, if you're about to move house, start a new job or undergo demanding medical treatment, you may not have the time to do the practice needed to get the techniques right. That doesn't mean we can't work around you, four weeks is a minimum guide for practice and this can change from session to session if you expect to be busier. If you reach the top of the waiting list and it's not a good time for you to start, don't worry! Just let me know, and I'll tell you when the next space becomes available.
Some people do use more than four sessions, sometimes going back over the previous technique is useful, sometimes trying an entirely different technique is useful, sometimes conversational practice is useful, and sometimes extra practice for something specific like a speech, job interview or presentation is useful. As some people access My Voice before going on T, they may choose to come back for a one off session, or fully go over one of the techniques if any changes occur in their voice later down the line. Everyone is welcome back any time, for any reason!

If you're a charity looking to work together
My voice can offer one to one voice coaching via charity contracting and workshops aimed at people DIYing their voice training, or waiting to access care. Previously run through The Love Tank and MESMAC Leeds, this workshop can be done online or in person, and has been extremely successful.
The content lasts around 45 minutes, with a further 45 minutes required for questions. It covers basic voice care information, technical information on how the voice works and the impact of hormones, warning signs of an injured voice, terminology commonly used in voice training resources, and common mistakes when voice training. Up to 15 service users can attend each workshop to ensure there is plenty of time for each attendee to ask any questions they may have. This has proved to be an invaluable element of the workshop; the opportunity to learn from, then ask a practitioner questions without judgement in a peer-led environment is rare, and incredibly useful for service users to make educated, autonomous decisions about their care.
